Local Scouts Celebrate at Camp Josepho
Sea Scouts, Air Scouts, Explorer Scouts and older Boy Scouts of the Crescent Bay Council, Boy Scouts of America, coming from the communities of Venice, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Westwood, and Culver City converged on Camp Josepho Friday night for the first bridge of honor and dance held in this council area for several years. The Sea Scout motif was a feature of the occasion, with a "Land Ship" set up on the main floor of the Scout pavilion. Harry Wills, Ship 52, Beverly Hills, was the ship's skipper. Wm. Veditz, Ship 45, Santa Monica, was the deck officer, assisted by skippers of Sea Scout Ships of Crescent Bay Council: Messrs Etz, Carlson, Dickson, Vail, Bechtel, Anderson, Harms, and Miller. Award Announcements A special bridge of honor was conducted on ship with a number of Sea Scout advancements awarded to outstanding Sea Scouts of the council area. Members of the Crescent Bay Council Sea Scout committee were piped aboard ship as one interesting phase of the bridge of honor ceremony. Leland P. Reeder, president of Crescent Bay Council, a resident of Beverly Hills, officially commended the Sea Scouts for their important achievements. The participating members of the Council Sea Scout committee included: Herb Goldwater, Howard Blanchard, Gordon Cornett, Clyde Harms, Thad Nethercutt, and Harry Davis. Holzman Presides Commodore Wm. Holzman, regional vice commodore, Region 12; commodore, Crescent Bay council-resident of Beverly Hills, presented the awards of advancement. Following the bridge of honor and the presentation of awards the remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing to a popular orchestra. Refreshments were served.
