Area U existed from 1942 until the establishment of the 12 Region System. Area U Section A roughly coincided with what became Area 12-A.
As the Order of the Arrow began to expand rapidly to 26 Areas, Area U was reorganized and was split into an Area 12-A, a predecessor to the 1949 introduction of Area 12-A and the first 12-A conference in 1950.
