Mataguay Scout Ranch is a San Diego-Imperial Council camp near Warner Springs, California. The council’s 2023 impact report described the ranch as a 600-acre property between the Palomar and Cuyamaca mountain ranges, offering year-round camping for Scouting and community organizations. Its oak woodland and chaparral setting provides an outdoor experience in San Diego County’s backcountry.1
The camp exists in the chaparral foothills of the surrounding mountains, offering a vast oak forest and a different experience than other “pines” camps.
The Pacific Crest Trail passes just to the North of the camp.
History

Mataguay’s significance extends beyond local unit camping. The ranch repeatedly hosted Section W4B conclaves, bringing together Arrowmen from across Southern California. Ashie Lodge hosted the 1984 and 1989 gatherings, Pang Lodge hosted in 1988, and Tiwahe Lodge hosted in 1993, 1997, and 2008. These events connect Mataguay to the broader history of interlodge fellowship and service documented by the Area 4 History Project.2
The ranch has also supported outdoor leadership education. San Diego-Imperial Council’s 2024 publications listed Wood Badge and recurring unit backpack training at Mataguay, illustrating its continuing role as a place for Scouts and adult volunteers to develop outdoor and leadership skills.3
