Carl Noble Helmick (1907 – 1998)

Scouting Awards

Eagle Scout

Silver Beaver, California Inland Empire Council # 45 (1984)

Carl Helmick was a legendary Scouter who worked in the profession for over 40 years.

He began his career in the Oakland Area Council in 1929 before taking the Yuma-Imperial Council job. It was in 1937 that he made the key decision to become the Scout Executive of Riverside County Council # 45. He would go on to serve for 35 years before his retirement.

Mr. Helmick, as he was known to all Scouts and Scouters, was also the driving force behind the establishment of Tahquitz Lodge # 127 in 1938. He kept his Vigil on July 4, 1939, becoming the first Vigil Honor member from the State of California.

For many years, the Council was a one-man operation, and he handled all tasks until membership had grown to the point he could hire additional staff.

By the time he retired, months before the merger that created California Inland Empire Council, Riverside County had over 10,000 youth served.
