Zelvin Lowman (1921 – 2006)

Also known as: Zel Lowman

Zel Lowman was involved in the Boulder Dam Area Council for over 50 years. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver, and received the Silver Antelope in 1980. He was also a 1965 Vigil Honor recipient in Nebagamon Lodge # 312, sharing the honor with his two sons. His Vigil name translates to “He Who Has Big Beliefs.”

He served in the Nevada Legislature between 1967 and 1977.

Mary and Zel Lowman Elementary School in Las Vegas is named for him and his wife.

He had a long career for the Nevada Power Company.

Zel was also a prolific article writer for the Las Vegas Sun and Las Vegas Review-Journal, publishing Scouting updates almost weekly for decades. Much of the historic research in Scouting, Camps, and the Order of the Arrow, in Southern Nevada are due to his tireless efforts.
