George William Torbett

George began his Scouting journey as a member of Explorer Post 64 in Barstow, California.

His Order of the Arrow Ordeal took place in 1958 at Camp Arataba. His Brotherhood took place in 1960 at Camp Helendade. His Vigil took place in 1991 at Camp Emerson, where we was given the name Watch Man (Wewoapisak).

After his career brought him from to the San Bernardino area, he served in many District, Council, and Order of the Arrow roles. George also contributed publications like “How To Put On A Vigil Ceremony,” that was available widely for Lodges to use.

He was also instrumental in keeping Cahuilla Lodge focused and stabilized after the untimely passing of Ted Green in 1993. His public service included Veteran service and in law enforcement for the San Bernardino County Probation department.

He also has served as a CIF referee in soccer, and a Special Olympics Volunteer. His son and grandchildren are Eagle Scouts. His daughter served on camp staff, volunteered locally, and served as a Philmont Ranger.
