Camp Tulakes Memories

“Camp Tulakes was the location of my first summer camp experience and what memories I had of that first camp! I finished requirements for 1st Class and earned the Swimming merit badge, my first merit badge. I also worked on my Astronomy merit badge and had fun down at the lake. I remember the enclosed mess hall and trekking down into ravines and back up twice to get to our campsite. The amphitheater for campfires was so cool, nestled in one of those ravines, the firelight shown all around. It was here I saw the first tap-out ceremony and learned about the Order of the Arrow. I knew right then that I wanted to be an Arrowman!”

“I served on Camp Tulakes Camp Staff from 1964 to 1970. I started as Nature Director, and then as Program Director and Camp Commissioner. I was also the Camp Bugler.

I did my OA Ordeal there, as well as Brotherhood and Vigil. So many memories as I grew into adulthood there.

We leased our camp to others when we did not have our Boy Scout Camp there. I served two part summers with the Girl Scouts and one Church group.”
