Boulder Dam Area Council was located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to the Council’s founding, Southern Nevada Scouting was organized with Arrowhead Area Council # 48 in San Bernardino, California.
Don Earl (1917 – 1997) of Las Vegas Troop 63, was the first Eagle Scout in Southern Nevada, receiving the honor in early 1932.
The first Scout Executive was James Moss, who served from 1944 to 1965.
In 1965, John Dupree came from Chicago to become the second Scout Executive.
Future Assistant Chief Scout Executive Mike Hoover was Scout Executive in the 1970s.
Zel Lowman received the Silver Antelope award in 1980.
Dan Gasparo left as Scout Executive around 1993. He dated from the early 80s and was from Chicago, and then left for Denver and then New York City.
Everett Sumner was then Scout Executive 1994 – 1997, and became HR Director for the Western Region. Ron Garland then served as Scout Executive from 1997 – 2001, before leaving for the Council in Portland. Finally, Phil Bevins served from 2001 – 2010.
The Council’s original Order of the Arrow Lodge was Sinawava Lodge # 312 before being disbanded. They permanently formed an Order of the Arrow Lodge with Nebagamon Lodge # 312.
Some of the Council’s camps over the years included Camp Tecopa, Camp Bonanza (1951 – 1976), Camp Potosi (1958 – 2021), Del Webb High Adventure Base (1974 – 2018), and Camp Levi Levi. The Council also operated an annual rotating Summer Camp called Camp Safari (1944 – 1950).
In 2005, the Council changed their name to Las Vegas Area Council # 328. Phil Bevins was Scout Executive at the time of the Council name change.
