Old Baldy Council # 43 (1921 – 2006)

Old Baldy Council was located in the Eastern area of Los Angeles County, as well as the Western area of San Bernardino County. Its last headquarters city was Ontario, California. Early in its history, its headquarters city was in Pomona, California.

Old Baldy Council had several camps over its existence, including Camp Tulakes until 1955, Circle B Scout Ranch until 1973, and Holcomb Valley Scout Ranch until the end of the Council.

On June 1, 2006, the Council was absorbed by two nearby councils. The portion in Los Angeles County joined San Gabriel Valley Council. The San Bernardino County portion joined California Inland Empire Council.

Incomplete Council Timeline:

  • 1923: J. Lincoln Blake is listed as Scout Executive 1.
  • 1924: J. Lincoln Blake resigns as Scout Executive. George S. Felker listed as Field Executive 2. O.A. Alverson listed as new Scout Executive 3. Mr. Alverson transferred from the Apache District Council in Globe, Arizona 4.
  • 1928: One of the largest Courts of Honor in council history held during Anniversary Week. Nearly 1,000 Scouts and parents attended. The Kiwanis Club helped set up twenty of more Merit Badge Booths. Pictures were shown on screen. Council Deputy Regional Scout Executive Curtis was in charge of 4 districts 5.
  • 1930: Lex R. Lucas reports a good relationship between Old Baldy Council and Chaffey Junior College 6.
  • 1932: Lex R. Lucas, Educational Director of Old Baldy Council, reports successful hike for Scout Leaders. They met at Evey’s Canyon at 6 AM. It covers flora, fauna, and geology for a Nature Specialization course 7.
  • 1937: Navajo Lodge # 98 is formed, the second Order of the Arrow Lodge in California.
  • 1939: Baby Nancy Jane born to Mrs. Carroll Wiggins, wife of Assistant Scout Executive Wiggins 8.
  • 1945: Lewis S. Elmendorf from Pomona is listed as an attendee of the First Advanced Training Course for Professional Scouters, held at Schiff Scout Reservation on November 3 – 16, 1945 9.
  • 1948: Scout Executive Oren Anderson dies on August 11.
  • 1953: Old Baldy Area Council (Pomona) listed as meeting their 1953 National Jamboree quotas based on units plus 10%, as of January 27, 1953 10. Guy Reide is Scout Executive.
  • 1961: First Buckskin training conference held in Old Baldy Council. This training program would later be adopted by California Inland Empire Council.
  • 1961: Guy E. Reide is Scout Executive. Glenn A. (Dee) Dellenbach is a veteran of 30 years in scouting. Dr. Robert F. Moynihan, James Peacock, and Ivan P. Kaufman, receive certificates of appreciation 11.
  • 1970s: Cedar Badge training exists. It would also be used by California Inland Empire Council.
  • Late 1960s to early 1970s: Everett Vinzant is Scout Executive.
  • 1972: Ron Brundage is Scout Executive.
  • 1980: Ron Brundage leaves Old Baldy Council to become Scout Executive of San Diego County Council.
  • 2006: Districts are Golden Eagle, Trails End, and Sunset.
