Known as Pop Nye, he is the namesake for the Grayback and Gray Arrow District’s Pop Nye Camporee. After his death in 1973, the camporee was then named in his honor and that tradition continues today.

He was a citrus grower native to the Inland Empire, living in the Crafton area of Mentone. His nextdoor neighbors were the longtime Scouting Johnson family.

His daughter, Liz Nye (1923 – 1995), was a longtime Secretary for the Grayback Council.
