Tiwahe Lodge # 45

Tiwahe Lodge # 45 was formed from the merger of Ashie Lodge # 436 and Pang Lodge # 532. The number 45 was both the lowest number available at the time, and used the first number of both merging Lodges.

The word, tiwahe, is a Lakota word for Family.

As San Diego County Council and Desert Trails Council were in the process of merging to form Desert-Pacific Council, Ashie Lodge held its 1992 Fall Fellowship in conjunction with Pang Lodge‘s 1992 Pow Wow, on November 6 – 8, 1992, at the Yuma Proving Grounds.

1993 calendar officers were elected on Saturday, November 7, and a merger ceremony was held that evening. Ron Brundage, Scout Executive for the new Council, spoke at the ceremony, as did outgoing Ashie Lodge Chief Harry Bakken and outgoing Pang Lodge Chief Jason Jackson.

The date of November 7, 1992, has generally been used as the symbolic merger date and the emergence of Tiwahe Lodge # 45. However, the two Councils did not actually merge until January 1, 1993. Because of this, the date of January 1, 1993, for the emergence of Tiwahe Lodge # 45 is used as the official date on this website.

The Lodge has twice received the National Service Grant, used for building a new deck at Mataguay Scout Ranch‘s Silva Lodge, as well as a second opportunity to build a new fire bowl.

Tiwahe was a member of Section W4B and W4S from 1993 to 2011. In 2011, because of San Diego-Imperial Council being part of Area 6, Tiwahe joined Section W6W. In 2015, Tiwahe Lodge had the honor of being the Service Lodge for the Centennial Celebration Conclave, and the event was the largest in that Section’s history. It is currently organized under Section G13W after the emergence of the OA Gateway Region.
